Our Chestnut liquid culture grows mushrooms in beautiful dense clusters that are just as wonderful to eat as they are to look at. Chestnut mushrooms have velvety dark orange speckled caps, similar in color to their eponymous nut. They have a light mushroom taste with plenty of umami that will enhance any dish with deep flavor and a pop of bright color. When cultivating this strain, Chestnut mushrooms prefer slightly colder temperatures. After inoculation, chestnut mycelium colonizes best at around 68F during incubation. When ready to initiate fruiting conditions, aim for a temperature of around 65F. Chestnuts prefer high humidity and fresh air exchange 2 to 3 times a day. Chestnut mushrooms grow on hardwood sawdust and master’s mix (50% hardwood sawdust, 50% soybean hulls). You’d have to be nuts not to love this strain.
All of our culinary liquid cultures are 100% USDA Certified Organic. We’ve developed a unique manufacturing process that eliminates synthetic, refined, or processed additives or preservatives in the creation of our liquid cultures, allowing us to achieve Organic certification and create liquid cultures that you can feel safe about growing and consuming
If your Chestnut mushroom liquid culture is contaminated or doesn’t grow, for any reason, we will replace or refund your order. Simple as that. Reach out to us at [email protected] if any issues occur during your grow.
Our team of geneticists work diligently to make sure the strains of our mushroom liquid culture are top-of-the-line. We focus on isolating characteristics such as resistance to contamination, size of mature mushrooms, and speed of growth. We never release a new strain until we feel we’ve gotten it to an extremely high-level of performance and we’re constantly investing in the improvement of our genetics.
We are a team of mycologists with over 30 years of combined experience creating high-performing and contamination-resistant liquid cultures. Our 2,000 square foot mycology research facility is equipped with state-of-the-art mycology and sterilization equipment to ensure that every MYYCO liquid culture that leaves our facility is clean and sterilized.
When we started MYYCO, we decided that making a beneficial impact was more important than profits and that the mushroom world was the wrong place for a profit-first mentality. MYYCO is a Certified Benefit Corporation. 100% of profits from every liquid culture we sell are donated to 501(c)(3) organizations performing groundbreaking studies on the beneficial powers of certain mushroom species. This means that we pay our expenses, keep a small cash stipend on hand for future expenses, and then donate the rest! Our current beneficiaries are MAPS, John Hopkins, and Heroic Hearts. Visit our Donation section to learn more and view our donation records.
Shoot us an email at [email protected] at any time during your grow and one of our mycologists will answer you within 24 hours.
100% of profits from every MYYCO sale are donated to leading 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations performing groundbreaking studies on the beneficial powers of certain mushroom species. MYYCO is a registered California Benefit Corporation. If you have any questions
