Our King Oyster liquid culture produces behemoth oyster mushrooms. King Oyster is the largest oyster mushroom, sometimes producing single mushrooms that weigh over a pound. This delicious and hearty mushroom is often compared to abalone in taste and texture. Although available at grocery stores, home grown King Oysters have a distinct improvement in quality and taste. These fast-growing mushrooms have a long shelf-life and can be stored up to 2 weeks in the fridge after picking them. King Oyster mushrooms prefer colder temperatures and are slightly more difficult to grow compared to other oyster species. Shoot for 50F to 77F for colonization. When initiating fruiting conditions, King Oysters like to be slightly cooler—45F to 68F. Like most mushrooms, they thrive in high humidity and require fresh air exchange 2 to 3 times per day. King Oyster mushrooms grow best on hardwood sawdust, master’s mix, and straw.
